Laptop Requirement
The College of Engineering requires incoming students to have a laptop for use during their studies in and outside the classroom. The use of computers is essential for professionals in engineering and most other disciplines. This requirement allows your instructors to leverage state-of-the-art software to improve your education.
The campus requirements for laptop hardware are posted on the IT website.
Software is available to students through Information Technology and through arrangements with specific courses, and thus there is no requirement for specific software.
Apple hardware does not run certain engineering software natively. Some Mac users have been able to overcome the hurdle by using various emulators and virtual machines (eg. VMWare Fusion or Parallels). Macs with an Apple silicon processor such as the Apple M1 can run MATLAB apps built for Intel processors in the Rosetta 2 environment.
Students entering Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) should have configurations to support SOLIDWORKS
