Akshaya earned her Ph.D. and Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UMass, Amherst. After graduating, she co-founded and served as the CEO of Lumme, a digital health company that developed just-in-time intervention platforms for smoking cessation. She is now with Intuitive surgical where she manages a team of engineers working on a robotic-assisted endoluminal platform.     

Over the past 12 years, Akshaya has developed innovative solutions to address healthcare’s key shortcomings in disease diagnosis, digital health, and robotics. Her contributions to healthcare have been recognized through highly prestigious awards and accolades such as the Forbes 30 Under 30 Healthcare 2018 list, MedTech Boston 40 under 40 Healthcare Innovators List, Hluchyj fellowship, Special Tang award, UMass Innovation Challenge, David Wolf prize, Glass family demonstration award, and the Eugene M. Isenberg Scholar award.

Her areas of focus as an entrepreneur-in-resident in the College of Engineering include health tech, robotics, go-to-market strategy, NIH grants,  and angel investments.
