MPH in Health Policy and Management

Today’s health policy and management professionals tackle an array of policy, finance, and law issues amid mounting competition and shrinking resources. Success in this field requires a broad base of public health knowledge and strong leadership skills.
Our 42-credit Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management provides the comprehensive, state-of-the-science training health care managers and policymakers need to succeed. The management program emphasizes an aggressive yet ethical approach to institutional leadership.
MPH Health Policy and Management course requirements:
- Five public health core courses (15 credits)
- Five health policy and management courses (15 credits)
- Two health policy and management electives (6 credits)
- Practicum/field training (3 credits)
- Culminating experience (3 credits)

Practicum Experience
Your practicum is an opportunity to represent a meaningful public health experience. Once you complete three of the five required public health core courses, you’ll start the practicum in the semester when the bulk of the work is done and finish it with a project and oral presentation.
CEPH Accreditation
Every program in the Department of Health Promotion and Policy, like every other department within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, is fully accredited by the Council of Education for Public Health, a key benefit of attending UMass.
Featured class
This course introduces the applications of economics to health and health care. Topics include health care resource allocation; the roles of hospitals, physicians, and health insurance; market imperfections and their role in economics of health care.
