About
My research centers on injury prevention, especially among youth and young adults. I use both quantitative and qualitative methods to understand how social policies and programs can prevent both unintentional injuries (e.g., car crashes, drug overdoses, poisonings) and intentional injuries (e.g., assault, homicide, suicide). Much of my research has focused on substance use and mental health as key risk factors for injury. My work examines social determinants of health and the unequal distribution of both opportunity and harm.
I am proud to collaborate closely with state and local officials to conduct policy-relevant research designed to inform their decision making. I serve as lead evaluator on a project to examine implementation and outcomes of a novel community responder program in Northampton, MA. I have also conducted research for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.
