Zuckerman Speaks on Mistrust in Institutions and the Effect on Public Life
Professor Ethan Zuckerman of the School of Public Policy, the department of communication and the College of Information and Computer Sciences, will speak on “Mistrust: Why Understanding the Loss of Faith in Institutions Is the Key to Transforming Contemporary Public Life,” on Monday, Feb. 22, at noon, via Zoom.
Zuckerman is the director of the new UMass Initiative for Digital Public Infrastructure, focused on reimagining the internet as a tool for civic engagement. His research focuses on the use of media as a tool for social change, the role of technology in international development and the use of new media technologies by activists.
He recently published his second book, Mistrust: Why Losing Faith in Institutions Provides the Tools to Transform Them. The talk is open to the UMass Amherst community. To attend, registration is required by 11 a.m. on Feb. 22. Registrants will receive a Zoom link before the event. The event is part of the School of Public Policy's 2020-21 Speaker Series.
