Woodland, Mazur Train Pakistani Educators in Instructional Leadership
Associate professor Rebecca Woodland and lecturer Becky Mazur, both in educational policy, research and administration, visited Islamabad, Pakistan, where they delivered the Instructional Leadership Institute for Pakistani Educators (ILIPE) from Jan. 9-18.
ILIPE is a cultural exchange program funded by the U.S. State Department that provides training in learning-centered teaching methods. Woodland and Mike Hannahan, director of the UMass Civic Initiative, are co-principal investigators of ILIPE.
As part of the visit, Woodland, Hannahan and ILIPE participants Fauzieh Merchant and UMair Qureshi were featured guests on Pakistan’s “World This Morning,” the nation’s morning TV talk show.
As a part of the work of the ILIPE, 20 teachers from Pakistan will visit campus and the College of Education in May and June for an additional five weeks of professional development focused on instructional leadership.
