WMUA, the student-run radio station, has received six nominations for Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards, which will be announced March 3 in New York City.

Senior Josh McCawley is a finalist for student station manager of the year and chief operating engineer Dan Ferreira is nominated for the Tom Gibson Award for Outstanding Engineering.

“The Next Level – Dungeons and Dragons,” hosted by Toby Cashook, Jasper Basiliere, Cory Willey, Max Cope-Flanagan, Sean McArdle and IsaacCarlson, is contending for the most creative show award.

The station is also vying for the award for best community news coverage for a report on a federal grant to fund a victim advocate at the Center for Women and Community to assist the Belchertown Police Department in responding to sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking. The piece was produced by the WMUA News team of Mike Hanson, news editor Becky Wandel and news operations director Phillip Bishop.

Wandel and Bishop are also nominated for best news interview for a piece about West African dance.

Sports production director Mike Knittle and Colin Cronin are up for best sports play-by-play for a women’s basketball game versus Rhode Island.
