West to Give Talk on Amazon April 6
On Wednesday, April 6 at noon, the Department of Communication will host a talk, “Buy Now: How Amazon Branded Convenience,” by Emily West, associate professor of communication.
West will discuss how the e-commerce company Amazon impacts our economy, culture and power as consumers. Her work shows how the global master of one-click shopping has used its branding and marketing strategies, and digital surveillance capabilities to become ubiquitous in our lives and to normalize its monopoly status in today’s digital economy.
