Virtual OSHA Summer Summit Held with Over 500 Safety Professionals from Across the Country

Over 500 professionals from higher education, general industry, the health care and construction industries, from across the country, participated in the 7th Annual OSHA Summer Summit on Wednesday, June 23.  The summit held virtually for the first time have a board variety of breakout sessions of interest to all industries.

Hosted by UMass Amherst Environmental Health and Safety Department in conjunction with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the OSHA training Institute at Keene State College, and the Connecticut Valley Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals, the safety training and networking event offered attendees important topics such as COVID-19 and looking ahead, creating a culture of safety, record keeping and case studies.

Marty Walsh, Secretary of Labor, provided opening remarks thanking all of those on the front lines during the pandemic and highlighted the importance of all aspects of safety. 

Mandy Edens, Deputy Assistant Secretary, OSHA and Richard Hawk, safety consultant, were the keynote speakers. Edens spoke about OSHA updates, accomplishments during the COVID pandemic, regulatory agenda updates and agency priorities moving forward. Hawk spoke on how to give employees the tools to concentrate better, heighten their attention to detail and effectively manage distractions, which results in a safer workplace.
