The installation of a 12-foot segment of the Berlin Wall painted by famed French artist Thierry Noir was celebrated on Tuesday, April 25, at the Memorial Hall patio. Donated to the university by the family of Eric Hanson, the wall segment painted by Noir is titled “The Power of Creativity over Concrete.”

This video from the event provides background on the wall, and how this particular piece of art taken from what was long a symbol of division and oppression found its way to the UMass Amherst campus.
