The project, “Towards a Green and Inclusive Post-pandemic Recovery of the Blue Economy and Coastal Communities,” will provide science-based guidance for a green post-COVID recovery of coastal areas in Costa Rica, Germany, Scotland and the US

The grant will be shared among UMass Amherst, the University of Glasgow, the University of Costa Rica, and the United Nations University. Vicarelli will receive $200,000 to support her research.

The grant is part of the São Paulo Research Foundation’s effort “Recovery, Renewal and Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World,” which supports social science research to fill gaps in the understanding of the social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The call for proposals received 313 research proposals, nineteen of which were recommended for funding.
