Trumpeter Eric Berlin Judges Munich Competition
Eric Berlin, associate professor of trumpet in the department of music and dance, recently served as a judge at the Munich ARD International Competition, a major annual event that rewards winners with considerable prize money and solo engagements with some of the world's top orchestras. The ARD Competition rotates its featured instruments each year, with prizes in 2018 awarded in trumpet, voice, piano trio and viola.
Joining Berlin on the judging panel for the competition, which was held Sept. 3-21, were a number of other prominent trumpeters, including Marco Blaauw (German avant garde soloist, member, Ensemble Musikfabrik), Ketil Christensen (Danish soloist, former principal trumpet, Danish National Opera), Mireia Farrés (principal trumpet, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra), Osamu Takahashi (principal trumpet, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony), Gábor Tarkövi (principal trumpet, Berlin Philharmonic) and Wim Van Hasselt (member of Lucerne Festival Orchestra, former member of Concertgebouw Orchestra).
