UMass Music, Dance Ensembles to Present End of Semester Concerts

The UMass Amherst department of music and dance will host a number of virtual performances to mark the end of the spring 2021 semester. A partial listing of these virtual events is below. Unless noted otherwise, all events can be viewed free via the department’s new YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/umassmusicdance.

Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24, 7:30 p.m. each evening – Senior Thesis Dance Concert:Proximity”

Friday, April 30, 7:30 p.m. –  40th Annual Jazz Showcase

Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, 7:30 p.m. each evening – Junior Choreography Projects: “memoirs”

Saturday, May 1, 2 p.m. – Faculty Wind Concert

Sunday, May 2, 3 p.m. – Brass and Wind Area Ensemble

Sunday, May 9, 2 p.m. – Vocal Jazz Ensemble

The UMass Wind Ensemble will also present a live in-person concert on Saturday, May 1 at noon in Amherst’s Sweetser Park (off Lessey Street, across from Police Station). The concert will feature music by William Grant Still, Hoagy Carmichael, Alberto Ginastera, John Williams' “Star Wars Trilogy” and Kim Archer's “Fanfare Politeia,” written for Kamala Harris' inauguration. The event is free – concertgoers must bring their own chair or blanket and observe social distancing guidelines (six feet apart) and wear a face covering. Attendance will be limited to 150 as per current state guidelines.
