UMass Magazine Wins Two Silver Awards from CASE District 1

UMass magazine, in both its print and digital versions, has earned accolades for excellence from CASE District I, the regional chapter of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education representing the northeastern United States and eastern Canada.

The print version of UMass magazine won a 2019 Silver Award for Creative Excellence, and the magazine’s website received a 2019 Silver Award for Fundraising and Alumni Relations Excellence.

University Relations staff, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor John Kennedy, created the award-winning content. They include Nancy Buffone, associate vice chancellor for University Relations; Judith Cameron, advancement communication writer; Jack Cavacco, multimedia graphic designer; Erik Gallant, associate director of online communication; Matt Jasiorkowski, director of design; Bob Lindquist, retired executive editor of university communications; Laura Miller, communications writer; Patricia Sullivan, managing editor of UMass  magazine; John Sippel, assistant university editor, and John Solem, university photographer.

CASE District I annually bestows its Excellence Awards on individuals and schools doing innovative work in the fields of special events, fundraising, stewardship, volunteer engagement, alumni relations, student alumni initiatives, advancement services and communications. Member institutions are located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island as well as New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Prince Edward Island.

UMass magazine has won a number of other accolades since undergoing a redesign in fall 2016, including a national CASE bronze Circle of Excellence award for writing for “Back from ‘Nam” (by John Sippel), a national CASE silver award for magazine publishing improvement and an Award for Excellence from the University and College Designers Association.
