UMass to Host ‘BIAS’ Film and Discussion with Filmmaker Robin Hauser
Members of the UMass community are invited to watch the documentary film “BIAS” and join in a discussion with filmmaker Robin Hauser to explore the themes of implicit bias covered in the film. Registration is required, and registrants will be sent a link to view the movie in advance of the discussion taking place on Thursday, March 18 at noon.
Hauser is an acclaimed filmmaker whose work in gender and racial bias brought her to the TED stage several times. She is the director and producer of cause-based documentary films at FinishLine Features and President of Unleashed Productions. Robin’s award-winning film, “CODE:Debugging the Gender Gap,” premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2015, and caught the attention of the international tech industry and of policymakers and educators nationally and abroad. She has spoken at TED, the White House, on Capitol Hill and at conferences worldwide on topics including diversity and inclusion, the importance of ethical artificial intelligence and gender equality. She is currently a diplomat for American Film Showcase and has screened her films at U.S. embassies on multiple continents.
“BIAS” is described as “a film that challenges us to confront our hidden biases and understand what we risk when we follow our gut. Through exposing her own biases, award-winning documentary filmmaker Robin Hauser highlights the nature of implicit bias, the grip it holds on our social and professional lives, and what it will take to induce change.”
Registrants will receive an on-demand link to watch the movie on Friday, March 12 in advance of the webinar discussion on March 18. Registration is available on the Office of Equity and Inclusion website.
This event is sponsored by the Isenberg School of Management and the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
