Isabella Weber, economics, has been named a co-recipient of the 2023 Kurt Rothschild Prize by Austria’s Renner Institut and the Social Democratic Parliamentary Group. Weber and Sebastian Dullien, of the Berlin University of Applied Sciences, will receive the award for their proposal to dampen inflation and cushion the social consequences of energy price shocks with a gas price cap.

Founded in 2016, the Kurt Rothschild Prize recognizes research that situates economic issues “in a broad context, rather than simply reproducing neoclassical beliefs.” Awardees are also distinguished by their intention to engage with society and politics through public debate that communicates their insights to a wide audience.

Weber and Dullien will accept the award and speak at an award ceremony in Vienna on Nov. 7.
