UMass Arts Extension Service and College of Humanities and Fine Arts to Host Virtual Internship Fair
AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass Amherst Arts Extension Service and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts Advising and Career Center is hosting the Arts Entrepreneurship Initiative's Spring 2021 Arts and Humanities Virtual Internship Fair. The event will take place online via the Career Fair Plus app on Feb. 11, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
UMass Amherst students interested in exploring careers in arts and nonprofit management and arts businesses are encouraged to attend.
The Spring 2021 Arts and Humanities Virtual Internship Fair will feature internship opportunities in the arts, arts management, and cultural non-profit fields. Internship providers in attendance will include non-profit arts and cultural organizations, museums, performing arts organizations, galleries, publishers, social justice organizations, creative businesses and independent artists with spring learning opportunities for UMass students.
Dee Boyle-Clapp, director of Arts Extension Service says,"The value of internships cannot be overstated. This relationship between professional and student is reciprocal. Providers receive help from students on a wide array of tasks, from database support to social media help, and in the process, see their organization through fresh eyes. For students, internships provide an opportunity to “test” a career to see if this is something they are interested in for their future. Internships open doors, build resumes, create new friendships, and help prepare students for an exciting future in the for-profit and nonprofit arts and humanities."
On the day of the fair, students and providers will connect one-on-one through virtual conversations with representatives from cultural organizations and artists. Providers who are looking for interns for the spring and summer may request to further interview intern candidates immediately following the fair. Students may sign-up for individual meetings with providers on the Career Fair Plus App starting Jan. 28.
The Humanities and Fine Arts Advising and Career Center and Arts Extension Service recommend students complete three internships prior to graduation in order to be competitive in the field. Internships provide students hands-on experience and help them build necessary professional skills through real world practice.
