UMass Amherst University Without Walls Director Ingrid Bracey Retires
After thirty-two years working for the University Without Walls (UWW), with 10 of those as UWW’s director, Ingrid Bracey has retired. UWW faculty members Abigail Dallmann and Lisa Modenos have been appointed interim co-directors. Bracey taught and advised UWW students for two decades before being appointed director. During her tenure, UWW’s enrollment and revenue increased and programs and staff expanded.
“We are profoundly grateful to Ingrid Bracey for her three decades of service to the University Without Walls program and the UMass Amherst community,” Dallmann and Modenos said in a statement. “It takes two of us to fill Ingrid’s shoes.”
“We are excited to support the UWW program as we transition to a new permanent director, and are grateful to work with such amazing students, staff and faculty,” Dallman and Modenos added.
Modenos joined UWW’s faculty in 2012. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Queens College, and her master’s and doctorate in anthropology from UMass Amherst. She runs UWW’s First Generation College Student Group.
Dallmann also joined UWW’s faculty in 2012. Before that she taught English in Massachusetts and California public secondary schools, as well as secondary schools in Mexico, Namibia, and Hungary. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale, her master’s degree from Stanford, and her doctorate in English with a concentration in American studies from UMass Amherst.
