UMass Amherst University Without Walls Extends Application Deadline; Offers Springfield Information Session

The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s University Without Walls (UWW) program will hold an information session at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at the UMass Center at Springfield, located in Tower Square, 1500 Main St. in Springfield. The information session is geared toward adults interested in completing their bachelor’s degree, as well as employers interested in obtaining information for their employees. Light refreshments will be provided. UWW has extended its application deadline to May 15.

UWW is a long-standing bachelor’s degree completion program that started in 1971 at UMass Amherst. The program mission is to help adults earn their bachelor’s degrees from the top-ranked public university. The program is designed to be completed 100 percent online, and students also have the option to take on-campus classes or blended classes at the UMass Center.

UWW also grants up to 30 credits for the work and life experience their students bring, as well as allowing students to transfer up to 75 credits from past course work and the evaluation of professional and military trainings for credit.

“We wanted to ensure that members of the community in Springfield and greater Hampden County had the opportunity to receive more information on our unique program before the application deadline passes,” said Jesse Lederman, pre-admissions advisor and recruitment coordinator UWW in Springfield. “We are an option for non-traditional students who are ready to take their education to the next level.”

The UWW program allows students to design their own areas of concentration in a wide range of areas, including business studies, criminal justice, human services, and children’s learning and development, among others.

Prospective students attending the May 3 information session will receive a general overview of the program and have the opportunity to schedule a pre-admissions advising appointment for an individualized overview of what his or her time in the program could look like. Employers and members of the public are also encouraged to attend to learn more about UWW.

Those interested in attending should visit www.UMass.edu/UWW to register for the information session. Walk-ins will be welcomed; however, attendees are encouraged to pre-register. For more information, contact Jesse Lederman, pre-admissions advisor and recruitment coordinator for UWW at 413-545-9837.

Students who apply by May 15 will be eligible to begin classes in the Fall 2018 semester.
