UMass Amherst Participates in COVID-19 National Day of Remembrance
UMass Amherst participated in the COVID-19 National Day of Remembrance Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m., by illuminating the W.E.B. DuBois Library and ringing the Old Chapel bells at the start and end of the hour.
The day of remembrance was to honor the 400,000 Americans who have lost their lives as a result of contracting the coronavirus. More than 20 million Americans have been infected by the virus, one year after the nation’s first confirmed case, amounting to one quarter of cases worldwide.
The Town of Amherst also be participated in the day of remembrance by sounding the town bell at 5:30 p.m., lighting the town’s buildings and inviting leaders in the faith communities to join in the collective recollection.
