UMass Amherst Graduate Programs Receive National Recognition in U.S. News & World Report 2022 Rankings

Graduate programs in several science and social science disciplines at the University of Massachusetts Amherst rank among the best in the nation in fresh rankings featured in the 2022 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools, which was recently released.

This year, U.S. News published new rankings in several areas including public affairs and public health. UMass Amherst’s School of Public Health and Health Sciences is ranked 31st, up one spot from when it was last ranked two years ago. The School of Public Policy is at now No. 58 for graduate studies in public affairs, up from No. 65 last year.

Several programs in the social sciences and humanities also were awarded new national rankings for the first time in four years – economics at 63, history at 48, political science at 56, psychology at 53 and sociology at 29, with the sex and gender studies program ranked 8th.

Rankings of other graduate programs were not updated this year, but they were republished in the new guide. They include:

Fine arts program at 89.

In the sciences—biology at 54, chemistry at 52, computer science at 20, artificial intelligence at 11, earth sciences at 46, mathematics at 55, physics at 56 and statistics at 74.

In the social sciences and humanities—English at 41.

In health—audiology at 26, speech language pathology at 45, clinical psychology at 50.
