UMass Amherst Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning Presents Spring Zube Lecture Series

The department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will present 11 events throughout the spring 2020 semester for its Zube Lecture Series. All events will be held in the Olver Design Building, room 170, and are free and open to the public.

  • Thurs., Jan. 30, 4 p.m. – Jonathan Wynn, associate professor of sociology, UMass Amherst; “The Fence and Ambulance: The social and spatial contact zones of urban hospitals”
  • Thurs., Feb. 6, 4 p.m. – Laura Lawson, dean of agriculture and urban programs and professor of landscape architecture, Rutgers University
  • Thurs., Feb. 13, 4 p.m. – Richard Forman, professor emeritus, Harvard Graduate School of Design; “Town Ecology: For the land of towns and villages”
  • Thurs., Feb. 20, 4 p.m. – Masters of Regional Planning Alumni Panel
  • Thurs., Feb. 27, 4 p.m. – Katherine Foo, assistant professor, Worcester Polytechnic Institute; “Activating Landscape Sustainability Science: A framework for governing urban green infrastructure”
  • Wed., March 4, 5:30 p.m. – Deborah Morris Loeb Fellow, Harvard Graduate School of Design; “Defining Resiliency: Envisioning an equitable future in light of climate change”

  • Thurs., April 9, 4 p.m. – Meg Vickery, lecturer of art history, UMass Amherst; “Landscape and Infrastructure: Reimagining the pastoral paradigm”
  • Thurs., April 16, 4 p.m. – Yaser Abunnasr, associate professor of landscape architecture, American University of Beirut, Lebanon

The Zube lecture series, named for Erv Zube, former head of LARP from 1974-80, brings local, national and international academic and professional leaders to the department to stimulate and enrich the academic community in landscape architecture and planning. Zube, who passed away in 2001, was internationally known for his leadership in developing a culture of academic research in the profession of landscape architecture, and his research made numerous seminal contributions to landscape planning theory and practice.
