UMass Amherst Community Campaign Kicks Off with $440,000 Goal
AMHERST, Mass.— The UMass Amherst Community Campaign (UMACC), a workplace giving program that allows UMass faculty, staff and retirees to donate to any nonprofit organization, launched the 2018-19 campaign Oct. 22. This year’s goal is to raise $440,000 for local, national and global nonprofit organizations.
Contributions are made through payroll deduction, check or credit card. Employees and retirees choose the organizations they want to support, and no donations stay at UMass.
“Through UMACC, the university demonstrates its continuing support for worthy causes, whether in our neighborhood or on a far corner of our planet,” says Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy. “I am immensely proud of our generous faculty and staff, including retirees, who use this opportunity to accomplish more together than any of us could do alone.”
Last year, more than 700 employees and retirees pledged more than $450,000 to nonprofits, and more than 60 percent of that went to organizations in western Massachusetts. Employees and retirees can choose to donate to a variety of nonprofits, from local organizations like the United Way of Hampshire County and Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, to national efforts like the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation.
The campaign chair again this year is Willie Hill Jr., director of the Fine Arts Center. “We rise by lifting others,” he says. “UMACC makes it clear that we are a generous and giving campus that comes together to support our community. The strong participation, generosity and community spirit of UMass employees and retirees make the UMass Amherst Community Campaign a great success. We hope to welcome even more participation and support during this year’s campaign.”
