UMass Amherst Celebrates Homecoming Oct. 24-26
AMHERST, Mass. – Homecoming 2019 will be celebrated Oct. 24-26 at UMass Amherst, with several activities planned for students, alumni, faculty and staff around the theme “Proud & Loud.”
Events start on Thursday, Oct. 24 with the Homecoming Spirit Kickoff providing giveaways, games, and more from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Campus Center Concourse.
On Friday, the Homecoming Block Party will be from 5 to 10 p.m. on the Goodell Lawn with live music, food, s’more making, inflatables and local beer, wine and spirit sampling. Attendees will enjoy special appearances by Sam the Minuteman, UMass Cheerleaders and the Minuteman Marching Band. Several schools and colleges will host information tents for alumni to catch up on what’s new. Also on Friday night, the UMass men’s hockey team will take on American International College at
7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
On Saturday, the campus will celebrate with the Homecoming Parade, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. near McGuirk Stadium. Marchers and floats will proceed up University Drive to Amity Street, then turn onto East Pleasant Street through downtown Amherst to North Pleasant Street and finish at Haigis Mall.
Before the Homecoming football game, alumni and fans are welcome at the Homecoming tailgate tent to enjoy fan favorites prepared by UMass Dining. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. against rival the University of Connecticut.
Other weekend highlights include the Revolution Run Homecoming 5K race, Homecoming Speaker Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Guru alumna Natalia Butler, the Black Student Union Poetry Jam and special reunions and gatherings.
