UMass Amherst Again Among Peace Corps’ 2019 Top Volunteer-Producing Schools

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst is one of the top colleges and universities in the country for producing Peace Corps volunteers. With 36 alumni serving across the globe last year, UMass Amherst is ranked
No. 25 among large-size schools, those with more than 15,000 undergraduates, on the agency’s list of top volunteer-producing colleges and universities in 2019.

In 2017, UMass Amherst ranked No. 21. Since the Peace Corps’ founding in 1961, more than 1,325 alumni have served abroad as volunteers. Massachusetts ranked No. 10 among states with the highest number of volunteers in 2018, with 242 Bay State residents serving worldwide.

“We have seen time and again that the colleges and universities that produce the most Peace Corps volunteers focus on cultivating global citizens in addition to promoting scholarship,” says Peace Corps director Jody Olsen. “I am proud that so many graduates of these esteemed institutions leverage their educations to make the world a better place. They bring critical skills to communities around the world and gain hands-on, life-changing experience along the way.”

The Peace Corps ranks its top volunteer-producing colleges and universities annually according to the size of the student body.
