Two UMass Amherst Videos Earn Telly Awards
Two video productions initiated by University Relations to promote the flagship campus have received Telly Awards, which honor excellence in promotional and advertising video production across all screens.
“This is the Place,” a commercial that promotes UMass Amherst as a community of accomplished scholars and a force for good, won a bronze award in the commercials school/college/university category.
A profile of Distinguished Alumna Audie Cornish, co-host of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” was honored with a bronze in the education category.
Both were produced in partnership with Element Productions, a firm founded in Boston in 1998 by alumnus Eran Lobel, who currently serves as CEO and executive producer.
“This is the Place” has been shown throughout Massachusetts on television and on social media since fall 2106.
The Audie Cornish profile, which premiered on social media in fall 2017, is part of a series of profiles of notable UMass Amherst faculty, students and alumni. The series, which was launched in 2015, can be seen online at profiles.umass.edu.
“Our collaborations with Element Productions support our ongoing campaign to tell the story of the flagship campus’s role as a national leader in research and academics,” said Nancy Buffone, associate vice chancellor for University Relations. “These videos convey the clear message that UMass Amherst has the world-class faculty, top-flight students and unshakable commitment to tackle the world’s most complex and challenging problems. This really is ‘the place.’”
The Telly Awards were founded in 1979 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable television commercials with non-broadcast video and television programming added soon after. With the recent evolution and rise of digital video (web series, VR, 360 and beyond), the Telly Awards today also reflect and celebrate this exciting new era of the moving image on and offline.
Selected from more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers around the world.
