Total of 4,000 COVID-19 Vaccinations Expected to be Administered at UMass Amherst by Week’s End

This week, UMass Amherst’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic was opened to adults 75 and older, with 1,500 doses available. Combined with the 2,500 vaccinations completed in previous weeks, 4,000 vaccinations are expected to be administered by the clinic by the end of this week.

The new appointments were made available on Feb. 1 as part of the Commonwealth’s Phase Two vaccine distribution. Those appointments have been filled, but as additional doses of the vaccine become available, appointments can be made at uma.force.com/covidtesting/s/first-responders  

The vaccination clinic, launched Jan. 11, is run by the university’s Public Health Promotion Center (PHPC). UMass anticipates scaling up weekly operation of the clinic as supplies of the vaccine and capacity are available.

“We’re pleased to support the state’s commitment to accelerate the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines,” said Ann Becker and Jeff Hescock, co-directors of the PHPC. “This is a vital aspect of the UMass Amherst’s commitment to public service in fighting the pandemic. We are devoting university resources to grow the public vaccination program, in addition to our community testing program and continued comprehensive testing of UMass students.”

They emphasized that the clinic is staffed through the invaluable assistance of the UMass College of Nursing, with nursing students providing critical support as the vaccination efforts expand.

The clinic is being conducted at the UMass Amherst Campus Center, 1 Campus Center Way. Free parking is available at the nearby Campus Center Parking Garage. Times and hours of the clinic will vary depending on vaccine availability and the state’s distribution plans. Please visit the university’s vaccine website for updates. Currently, the vaccine clinic is administering the Moderna vaccine, which includes two doses administered 28 days apart.
