TEFD Announces Mutual Mentoring Grants for 2018-19

The Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development (TEFD) has awarded six faculty team grants along with 11 individual pre-tenure faculty micro grants as part of its Mutual Mentoring Program.

Originally funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Mutual Mentoring Team and Micro Grants, now supported by TEFD funds, encourage faculty to develop robust professional networks that support their growth as researchers, teachers and leaders in their fields.

The Mutual Mentoring Team Grants provide up to $6,000 for one year to support full-time faculty (assistant professors, associate professors and lecturers) at the departmental, school/college, interdisciplinary or inter-institutional level.

This year’s recipients are:

  • College of Education (CoEd) Faculty of Color Collective
  • Diversity and Inclusion Vital Alliance (DIVA)
  • Integrated Introductory Life-Science Education
  • Mentoring GroupUMass Neural Systems Workgroup (Neurophyzzle)
  • UWRITE: ​University ​Writing to ​Reflect, Inspire, ​Teach and Empower
  • Women of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Mutual Mentoring Micro Grants provide up to $1,500 for one year to individual pre-tenure faculty. Micro Grants are intended to encourage early-career faculty to identify desirable areas for professional growth, and to develop the necessary mentoring relationships to make such opportunities possible.

  • Louis Graham, health promotion and policy and Commonwealth Honors College
  • Traci Parker, W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies
  • Kimberlee Pérez, communication
  • Darrel Ramsey-Musolf, landscape architecture and regional planning
  • Pari Riahi, architecture
  • Francisco Javier Villarroel Ordenes, marketing
  • Kathryne Young, sociology
