Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series Presents Virtual Talk on Aging and Remembering Emotional Events

The Center for Research on Families (CRF) is presenting a talk, “When I’m 64: Age Similarities and Differences in the ways Emotional Events are Remembered,” by Elizabeth Kensinger, professor of psychology at Boston College, on Friday, Nov. 6 at 12:30 p.m.

In this talk, Kesinger will describe how emotions can affect the likelihood that we remember an event and its’ details and how age can be a factor in the perception of the way memories recalled. She will present evidence pointing to important differences in the ways that older adults versus younger adults remember emotional life events. Kesinger will describe the expanded model of emotional memory she developed which seeks to elucidate these age-related differences such as older adults more often focus on an event’s silver linings rather than the negativity of an event.
