Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series: ‘Identity-Based Motivation: Using Identity to Do More and Better’
The Center for Research on Families (CRF) is presenting a talk, “Identity-Based Motivation: Using Identity to Do More and Better,” by Daphna Oyserman, Dean’s Professor in the department of psychology, professor of education and communication and co-director of the Dornsife Center for Mind and Society at the University of Southern California, on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.
In this talk, Oyserman will address the question, “What factors might cause people to experience gaps between their aspirations and their actual outcomes for their health, wealth and education goals? ” Shewill discuss identity-based motivation theory, a social psychological theory of motivation that provides a useful predictive framework to understand what factors might matter in people’s perception of outcomes. Oyserman will present theory and experimental evidence from school-based intervention research.
Registration is required for this Zoom lecture.
This lecture is part of the Tay Gavin Lecture Series. The Tay Gavin Erickson Lecture Series, which began in 1999 through an endowment established in memory of Tay Gavin Erickson, brings multiple speakers with expertise in family research to campus each year.
