Tachtiris Elected to American Literary Translators Association Board
Corine Tachtiris, assistant professor of comparative literature, was elected to the board of the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) for a three-year term.
ALTA is a non-profit, independent, arts membership association dedicated to supporting the work of literary translators and advancing the art of literary translation.
Tachtiris has previously been serving on ALTA's conference committee and as chair of their sexism and sexual harassment task force. She is a practicing literary translator from French and Czech, focusing primarily on fiction and poetry by contemporary women authors from Haiti, Cameroon, Canada and the Czech Republic. At UMass, her courses include a literary translation workshop and a graduate seminar on race, gender and sexuality in translation.
