Sustainability Curriculum Fellowship Application Deadline Nears

Full- and part-time faculty, including instructors, who plan to teach a sustainability-related course in fall 2018 or spring 2019 are invited to apply for a Sustainability Curriculum Fellowship (SCF). Application deadline is Monday, June 4.
Applicants must demonstrate interest in, and commitment to sustainability and active, student-centered learning.
Established in 2013, SCF is a year-long interdisciplinary fellowship program designed to bring together faculty with a keen interest and commitment to sustainability, and to offer a productive space to enhance teaching excellence in this critical, interdisciplinary area.
No more than 10 faculty members will be selected to join next year’s fellowship program. Fellows receive a $1,000 professional development grant along with a range of focused support to assist faculty in making enhancements to an existing course or in launching a new sustainability course.
Fellows must:
- Attend monthly 2-hour meetings to engage with other fellows, discuss pedagogy, course redesign, and learn about library and campus sustainability resources. Meetings will be held on eight Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. each semester, and participants must attend 80 percent of them to receive a full stipend.
- Revise or create a course syllabus or curriculum to include/augment student learning outcomes related to sustainability as well as relevant sustainability topics and resources.
- Present a brief teaching demonstration to the group.
- Deposit a lesson, unit, or course resource in the SCF repository.
- Complete a feedback form at the end of the year.
Selection will be based on clarity of goals, design and implementation; potential impact of project outcomes on sustainability curriculum and student learning; and potential to apply to future courses.

Proposals will be reviewed by the SCF planning team, which includes representatives from the School of Earth and Sustainability (SES), the campus sustainability manager, and the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development (TEFD). Successful applicants will be notified by early June.
