The UMass Amherst Student Alumni Association earned accolades for excellence from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (CASE ASAP) District I at the February conference held at the University of Connecticut. CASE ASAP District I is the regional chapter representing the northeastern United States and eastern Canada.

Rebecca Munro ’19, a public health and sociology major, won the 2019 Award for Outstanding Student Leader. The award recognized Munro as “a dedicated student who has significantly improved the organization by inspiring growth, cultivating collaboration, and developing meaningful relationships.”

Lindsay McGrath ‘18G, an Alumni Relations staff member and College of Education graduate, won the 2019 Award for Outstanding Advisor. The award credited McGrath as “a CASE ASAP organization advisor (staff member, faculty member or graduate student) who has facilitated effective progress within the organization and has served as a mentor to involved students.”

The Student Alumni Association also won the 2019 Award for Outstanding Student Advancement Program. The group’s annual Commencement Ball was awarded for the following: “Facilitated by a student advancement organization, these external programs involve students, alumni, prospective students and/or community members through education and awareness of engagement or philanthropic efforts. Examples may include: Homecoming events, alumni-student networking events; Student Engagement & Philanthropy month activities; student campaigns and fundraising programs; or prospective student recruitment.”

Each of the 2019 award winners is automatically nominated in their respective categories to compete at the CASE ASAP national awards conference taking place this summer in Baltimore.

The Student Alumni Association most recently won the 2018 District I Award for Outstanding Organization, and the 2018 District I Award for Outstanding Student Advancement Program for its “I Love UMass Day” initiative.

CASE ASAP comprises student alumni associations, student foundations and similar organizations at more than 300 CASE member institutions. Its goal is to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement—from alumni relations and communications to fundraising, marketing and related areas. District I member institutions are located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island as well as New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Prince Edward Island.
