Dear Campus Community,

We are pleased to announce that all six strategic planning working groups have completed their thematic reports containing their strategic analyses and working recommendations.

The reports cover each of the thematic areas:

  • Education
  • Research and Creative Activity
  • Translation and Knowledge Transfer
  • Engagement
  • Inclusivity, Wellbeing, and Sustainability
  • Financial and Operational Viability

The working groups used many resources to inform their reports, including “Be Revolutionary: A Vision for the Future” 2018–2023 Campus Strategic Plan; NECHE Fifth-Year Interim Report 2023; strategic plans from our schools, colleges, vice chancellors, and non-academic units; the Diversity Strategic Plan; materials from the fall 2023 listening sessions; and the ideas submitted by members of our campus community during the earlier information-gathering process.

All members of our community are invited to review the thematic reports and provide feedback between now and May 28, 2024, when comments will close.

The reports—as well as comment forms—are available on the strategic planning website. Please note that you will need to log in with your UMass NetID and password to access them.

In June, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee will begin the final phase of the process: developing the strategic plan. We will use the thematic reports and any community comments received to inform this work. Our goal is to submit a comprehensive ten-year strategic plan to Chancellor Javier Reyes by September 1, 2024.

We thank the members of our strategic planning working groups for their monumental and thoughtful efforts. We also thank everyone who has provided input into the strategic planning process as we Imagine 2034 and the next chapter of UMass Amherst.

Sincerely,

Anne Massey
