Spanish Doctoral Students Present Research in Thailand
Doctoral students of Spanish, Daniela Narvaez and Christian Puma, recently presented their research at the 11th Workshop on Linguistic Landscape held at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
The workshop, organized by the faculty of arts and the department of linguistics at the Chulalongkorn University, was held June 4-6.
Accompanied by their advisor, Patricia Gubitosi, associate professor of Spanish, Narvaez and Puma presented "Holding the flag: Ecuadorean landscape in Queens, NY, United States."
The research illustrates how Ecuadorean migrants in Queens use not only their language to show their allegiance to Ecuador, but also their flag, colors and food pictures that differentiate themselves from other Latin American communities.
