Sophos To Replace McAfee for Anti-Virus Protection
Starting in this month, a new anti-virus software is available for campus community members’ university-owned and personal computers. Under a new university-wide contract, Sophos Intercept X Advanced will replace McAfee endpoint protection as the preferred anti-virus solution on campus.
- In departments where dedicated information technology (IT) support is available, faculty and staff are encouraged to contact their IT support staff for more information on Sophos software.
- If your department does not have dedicated IT support, please contact IT User Services at 413-545-TECH (8324) or it@umass.edu for details on how to obtain and install Sophos software for your university-owned computer(s).
- Sophos software will be available at no cost for your personal computer(s) through an online portal. Students will also benefit from this option for their computing devices. Please check the IT website for details soon to follow.
IT professionals who manage and provide support for university-owned devices can join weekly Sophos migration meetings on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in Du Bois Library 750.
The current, university-provided McAfee endpoint protection software must be removed from your computer(s) by March 31, when the university's contract with McAfee expires.
