Rising Researcher Call for Nominations

The nomination period for the spring 2022 UMass Amherst Rising Researcher student award program is now open.

About the award

The Rising Researcher award is designed to raise the profile of our most promising undergraduate students and to publicly acknowledge their excellent work. The program is co-supported by University Relations, Research and Engagement and the Commonwealth Honors College.

Who is eligible for the award?

Undergraduate students (first year - senior) who excel in research, scholarship or creative activity.

Who is eligible to submit a nomination?

Faculty members are encouraged to nominate eligible students who are under their supervision. Students are also required to submit supporting documentation.

What are the selection criteria?

Eligible students will be exceptional undergraduates who have demonstrated leadership and impact in their chosen area of study. Impact can take the form of research results/scholarly publication; innovation/entrepreneurial activities that may lead to the development of technology or formation of a business; or significant contribution to a creative work such as a book, collection of poetry, musical composition or theater/dance production. 

Recognition 

Students will receive a custom-engraved award to signify this honor and are profiled across multiple media channels, including the UMass website. There will be an event to celebrate the student honorees and their faculty mentors during the spring semester.  

The deadline for submission is noon, on Friday, Feb. 18.
