Richard Yeager II Named Director of Campus Planning

Richard A. Yeager II, a 30-year veteran in architecture and planning administration, has joined Facilities and Campus Services as director of campus planning. 

Yeager comes to UMass Amherst from Boston College where he was assistant director of planning and design and led a staff that oversaw a campus of more than 150 buildings. He was responsible for the planning and design of annual capital projects and played a critical role in BC’s major projects. He also contributed to the development of BC’s comprehensive master plan and the development of its Brighton campus. Yeager has been involved with and managed academic planning, design and construction projects throughout his career.

Yeager has a strong background in preservation, including an appointment as a commissioner with the Boston Landmarks Commission, where he was elected vice chair last year. He has been a member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) for more than 20 years as well as a member of the Association of University Architects (AUA), and has presented at numerous conferences. He has served as chair of the AUA’s heritage preservation committee, focusing on historic academic buildings.

Yeager is also an adjunct faculty member of the Boston Architectural College, where he has been teaching an advanced design studio class for the past six years. He majored in architecture and received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Virginia and received his Master of Architecture degree at Yale University.
