Retirement Reception Set for Employee Relations Director Nicholas Marshall
The campus community is invited to honor Nicholas Marshall, director of labor/employee relations, at his retirement reception Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 4-6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Atrium.
Marshall is retiring March 30 after 20 years in Human Resources. He joined UMass Amherst in 1997 when he moved from being an arbitrator/mediator at the Massachusetts Board of Conciliation and Arbitration to his current job. Before working at the board, he had been a lawyer representing public employers.
In his time at the university, Marshall has worked to foster an effective and forthright collective bargaining relationship with campus unions and to address problems through labor-management engagement rather than litigation. He said he is looking forward to the making the most of retirement with his wife, Kate Flynn.
