The campus community is invited to celebrate the career of Jeanne Horrigan on Friday, Feb. 8 from 4-6 p.m. at the Marriott Center, 11the Floor, Campus Center.

Horrigan, who will retire later this semester, has served the university for more than 35 years, most recently as director of New Students Orientation (NSO) and Parents Services.

A proud alumnus, she began her professional life as an undergraduate admissions counselor before joining what was then called the New Students Program the following year. For the next three and a half decades, she dedicated herself to the critical work of welcoming thousands of students and families to campus each summer, providing an introduction to undergraduate life and facilitating a smooth transition to the university.

Over the years, she developed programs to meet the changing needs of UMass Amherst students and the increasingly competitive stature of the university, including, summer, fall and winter NSOs, with Student Convocation and Winter Welcome; an online orientation Moodle course for international and other distant students; summer and winter Parent/Family Orientations; Family Weekend; and the Office of Parent Services. Her commitment to the campus community has included countless hours volunteering for commencement and other university events.
