AMHERST, Mass. – Daniel Ellsberg, one of the nation’s foremost political activists and whistleblowers, will be the featured speaker at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Campus Center Auditorium at the Friends of the Libraries’ 21st Annual Fall Reception.

Ellsberg has been named a Distinguished Researcher at the Du Bois Library and his personal papers recently were acquired by the university.

Following a decade as a high-level government official, researcher and consultant, Ellsberg distributed the top-secret Pentagon Papers in 1971, exposing decades of deceit by American policymakers during the Vietnam War. His subsequent decades of activism have focused on the dangers of nuclear weapons, wrongful U.S. interventions and the need for patriotic whistleblowing.
