Ramsby Elected to Serve as Society's Vice President for Education
Teresa Ramsby, professor of classics, was recently elected to serve as vice president for education for the Society of Classical Studies (SCS), an international organization of academics and teachers of ancient Mediterranean languages and cultures. Ramsby officially entered the VP position at the annual meeting of SCS in January, and will serve a term of 4 years supervising nine committees engaged with aspects of pedagogy, outreach and education. Her goals in the position are to increase engagement between college-level and K-12 instructors within the discipline, and to increase access to pedagogical ideas and best practices among K-12 teachers, graduate instructors, and postdoctoral and senior faculty.
Ramsby has served as director of the classics master's degree in the arts of teaching program for the last twelve years, a program widely recognized for producing well prepared Latin teachers who work in schools in the region and throughout the nation, many of whom are award-winning. She publishes work on pedagogy and Roman poetry (principally the poet Ovid), and was a recipient of the UMass Distinguished Teaching Award in 2016.
