Input from the UMass Amherst Donahue Institute helped factor into the economic development plan for the Commonwealth released by Gov. Maura Healey’s administration on Dec. 6.

Throughout 2023, Mark Melnik, director of the Donahue Institute’s Economic and Public Policy Research group, presented at nine regional engagement sessions with Bay State residents, business leaders, elected officials and other stakeholders, hosted by the governor’s economic development planning council.

At each event, Melnik presented an overview of the Massachusetts economy – similar to the “economic roadshow” presentation he often gives to local chambers of commerce and other regional and statewide stakeholder groups – providing a foundation for the feedback sessions. The feedback fielded from each of the nine meetings in part formed the economic development plan.
