Pearson Named Director of New Student Orientation and Transitions

Pearson, who is mononymous, has been named the director of New Student Orientation and Transitions. She brings nearly a decade of progressively responsible experience in orientation, transition and retention in higher education to her new role. She begins her new role at UMass Amherst on Monday, June 14.

Most recently, Pearson served as assistant director and program coordinator for New Student and Family Programs at Florida State University. In that role, she provided critical leadership in the reconstruction, coordination and implementation of sweeping program revision in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pearson earned her bachelor of arts in secondary English education and her master’s of arts in higher education and student personnel from the University of Mississippi. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in higher education from Florida State University.

At UMass Amherst, her responsibilities will include strategic visioning and management of the New Student Orientation and Transitions.
