Patricia Cardoso-Erase Named Interim Dean of Students

Patricia Cardoso-Erase has been named interim dean of students in an announcement made by Shelly Perdomo-Ahmed, interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life. Cardoso-Erase assumed her new role on June 5.

Perdomo-Ahmed noted that Cardoso-Erase brings “over a decade of experience in leadership and supervision of student services” to her new role. Most recently, she served as a deputy dean of students, providing leadership in the areas of crises response, case management, student conduct and community standards, off campus student services, student parent programs, parent and family services, and basic needs initiatives.

Previously, Cardoso-Erase served as the associate dean of students for conduct and compliance, where she established the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office, helped to revise the Code of Student Conduct and improved student conduct systems and processes.

Cardoso-Erase earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology with a focus in social services as well as her master’s degree in education with a focus in social justice education from UMass Amherst.

Cardoso-Erase’s new responsibilities include oversight of the Dean of Students Office, parent and family services, the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office, and new student orientation and transitions.

She will succeed Evelyn L. Ashley, who concluded her service at UMass to join Old Dominion University.
