Open Meetings to be Held to Discuss UMass Amherst's Comprehensive Evaluation for Reaccreditation

The university is undergoing a comprehensive evaluation for reaccreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE, formerly the Commission on Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, NEASC). A team of nine evaluators from public research universities across the U.S. will be visiting the campus Oct. 21-24.

During this time, over 40 meetings will be held on campus to enable the evaluators to better understand how the university meets the standards of quality outlined by NECHE.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend one of the following open meetings Monday, Oct. 22:

  • Open meeting for faculty – 4:15-5:15 p.m., Campus Center 162-75
  • Open meeting for students – 4:15-5:15 p.m., Campus Center 168C
  • Open meeting for staff – 4:15-5:15 p.m., Campus Center 174-76

Refreshments will be served at all meetings.

To prepare for the evaluation review, a comprehensive self-study document with data, description, appraisal, and projection of the university’s future plans has been completed. The self-study documents and more information about the site visit can be found here.

The university undergoes this voluntary and extensive accreditation process to provide assurance to prospective students, their families and the general public that it meets the standards of quality set by NECHE.
