Office of Faculty Development Moving to Du Bois Library

The Office of Faculty Development (OFD), currently located on the third floor of Bartlett Hall, is moving to the 26th floor of the W. E. B. Du Bois Library, Room 2604, this summer. The new space will be temporarily closed during its redesign and will reopen on June 20.

The prior Faculty Commons space in room 2604 will now house both the Office of Faculty Development and the Faculty & Librarian Commons (FLC), a café-style writing and small-group meeting space dedicated to supporting the scholarly activity of faculty and librarians. With this move, the faculty development staff will reside alongside the commons. OFD will now be accessible and available to faculty and librarians on a regular basis. The OFD staff aims to create a welcoming, comfortable and inclusive space for faculty members to work on their scholarship, and faculty members are invited to stop by for tea or coffee, or to check in on any mentoring questions they have.

In an effort to showcase faculty and librarian work in the FLC, the OFD is currently soliciting pictures of art, performances, book covers, research, technology and community/public engagement to hang on the walls. If faculty members would like their work to be represented, they are asked to upload a picture on the OFD site by June 1.

The FLC is open and accessible to faculty and librarians during the hours the W. E. B. Du Bois Library is open. Entry requires a valid UMass Amherst UCard. Faculty or librarians who wish to access the space must submit a request at https://www.library.umass.edu/faculty-commons/.
