Office of Equity and Inclusion Seeking Proposals for Campus Climate Improvement Grants
The Office of Equity and Inclusion is accepting applications for 2022-23 Campus Climate Improvement Grants beginning March 3. Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff are encouraged to submit their creative ideas for thoughtfully addressing challenges to climate and belonging, either local or campus wide.
These grants, ranging from $250 to $2,500, are intended to support projects that help build community and create a more inclusive campus. The funded projects previously have included film series, book clubs, workshops, art exhibits, lectures, events and more.
“This is an opportunity for people to draw upon their interests and expertise, and identify and thoughtfully address the challenges to campus climate that they observe day-to-day,” says Emmanuel Adero, chief deputy of equity and inclusion. “Lasting and meaningful change in our community can’t be top-down. It requires involvement from all of us. Since we started this initiative in 2018, our students and staff have used these grants to do some great work, some of which has continued beyond their initial projects.”
Priority will be given to those proposals that clearly reflect the goals of the Campus Strategic Plan, that are likely to yield a more sustained climate improvement and engagement, and that involve members across the campus community. Special consideration will be given to projects that encourage participation and coordination between two or more areas, schools, departments, organizations or groups.
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 18, end of day. Prior to application, prospective grantees must watch a short informational video to be eligible to apply, and then meet with Emmanuel Adero to discuss proposal parameters at one of the following times:
- Session 1 via Zoom: Wednesday March 2, 2 p.m.
- Session 2 via Zoom: Tuesday March 8, 10 a.m.
- Session 3 via Zoom: Thursday, March 10, 2 p.m.
- You may attend Emmanuel's regular office hours (Monday and Wednesday, 10-11 a.m.) if you can't make the above dates.
