Obituary: Stanley Kopinto, Retired Greenhouse Worker
Stanley C. Kopinto, 97, of Amherst, a retired greenhouse foreman in plant and soil science, died Feb. 10.
Born Dec. 31, 1920, he grew up on the family farm in Montague. He graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1940 and then trained as an aviation radio technician in Boston and worked for Pan American Airlines.
He worked in the greenhouses at Belchertown State School before joining UMass Amherst in 1972 as a greenhouse foreman. He retired as a senior technical assistant in plant and soil science in 1984.
He was predeceased by Lena, his wife of 69 years. He is survived by his sons Lester (Gail), Charlie (Jan), and Robert (Karen).
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 15, with a calling hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Wrisley Funeral Home, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Brigid's Cemetery in Hadley.
