Obituary: Premachandran Menon, Retired Lecturer in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Premachandran “Prem” Menon of Amherst, 65, a retired lecturer in electrical and computer engineering, died Jan. 1.
Born in Malaysia, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1957. After earning a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, he worked for 24 years for AT&T/Bell Laboratories.
He joined the UMass Amherst department of electrical and computer engineering in 1986 and retired in 1996. His contributions to the field of switching theory and to the methods for fault detection in digital circuits have been internationally recognized.
In 1988, he was elected fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
He leaves his wife Mira, their son Ajay, three brothers and a sister.
